Dungeonears Guide to COVETOUS/WRONG

LEGEND
D = Door
G = Gate
F = Electric Field
LD = Locked Door
MD = Magic Locked Door
SD = Secret Door
Up Arrow = Ladder Up
Down Arrow = Ladder Down
Switches and Levers = drawn in symbols that look like the actual item

Many of the Doors in this Dungeon are Magic Locked so you will need the "Unlock Magic" spell to open them.  Most rooms only have random monsters in them ranging from those cheeky low flying vampire bats to Drakes and Dragons, wile some rooms have a few minor items only one has any treasure that wouldn't be easier to get in a different dungeon.  This one room (on the 3rd Level) is necessary to complete the main quest as it contains a piece of Captain Hawkins Treasure Map.

Level 1

Note: in the NE corner of this map is a Ladder Down that in the original game was unreachable.  I believe that the original intent of this was to add on another dungeon to this but was scraped in development.  the ladder is blocked off by an electric field that can not be turned off (TESTED-In U6O this area is open).  There is also a switch in the far north room that (as far as i am aware) does nothing.  The two may have been connected at one time.  The ladder past the doorway leads to a small dungeon complex.  But there relay isn't anything there ... only a few low level monsters and no treasure to speak of.

Level 2

most of the rooms on this level are kept closed by iron gates.  If you are low level here be careful as some monsters with ranged attacks can still hit you threw the bars.  In the center of each section is a room with the levers that open all the gates on this level.  The lever in the room on the east end opens the West end room ... and the ladder leading down.

NOTE: ATM there is no way to open the portcullis on the east side.  The only way to flip the leaver is to either use Telekinesis to flip it remotely threw the bars or if you have an open spot in your party you could recruit the mouse party member "Sherry" in Lord British's Castle.  She is small enough to fit threw the gates bars and flip the lever without risking opening any of the other chambers.

Level 3

This is where you find the chamber with the Treasure Map piece in it.  Open up the most North East Room, Kill the Hydra there and check the North Wall for a Secret Door that leads into a tunnel at the end of witch is a room with some gold, a treasure chest, a magic Bow, and the Map Piece.

Level 4

Nothing Much on this level.  Just some monsters

Addendum

I have in my possession some pages from the original Origin Strategy Guide for this game.  the guide was presented as a Journal written in the words of two NPC's found in the U6 world "Mandrake" and "Penumbra"

the standard Text is in the words of Mandrake ... and the Italics are Penumbras additions.  This part doesn't really add anything important, its just a fun bit of flavor for those interested in the story.

I spent the night in Covetous on a bet once.  Selganor didn't think I'd have the nerve.  Covetous connects up with the dungeon Wrong now, and they're pretty much one and the same.  Now, normally, I'm not the sort who takes to the idea of wandering around in dungeons when it can be avoided, not even when there's money involved.  But I'd heard rumors about Covetous before, about the monsters down there being all caged up, and unable to hurt you unless you wander too close.  And bust a lute-string if those rumors weren't true - at least, on the first two levels.  I heard some nasty sounds drifting up from the ladder that led down further, and I decided not to venture any further.  I saw some people imprisoned down there as well, but iI didn't take any chances with them.  Who am I to say that whoever locked 'em up didn't know what he was doing better than I?
** On the third level there is a secret door you must seek. **
